Ohio’s Attorney General Admits Affair with Employee

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio’s attorney general admitted an extramarital affair with an employee Friday, soon after three of his aides were fired or forced out after an investigation found evidence of sexual harassment and other misconduct.

Leader of both parties were critical of Attorney General Marc Dann, one of several Democrats swept into office in 2006 after a scandal over state investments sullied Republicans. He apologized to his wife and supporters but promised not to step down.

“I’m embarrassed. I have taken responsibility for what I’ve done,” he told reporters.

Dann had lived with two of the aides at an apartment during much of his first year in office and some of the alleged harassment by one of the aides occurred there.

“I did not create an atmosphere in my public and personal life that is consistent with the important mission of the Office of Attorney General …,” Dann said. “I am heartbroken by my failure to recognize the problems being created and by my failure to stop them.”

Ohio GOP deputy chairman Kevin DeWine called for Dann’s resignation, saying he turned the attorney general’s office into a “raunchy frat pad.”

Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland said the investigation showed a “double standard” with Dann staying while some employees were let go.

Dann, 46, said the affair was consensual and refused to disclose the name of the employee. He said the relationship came during a difficult time in his marriage, but that it “was wrong and I deeply regret it.”

Dann’s scheduler, Jessica Utovich, with whom he had a close relationship in which they often used profanity, nicknames and teasing when e-mailing each other, resigned voluntarily, said Tom Winters, first assistant attorney general. He did not give a reason.

When interviewed for the sexual harassment investigation conducted by assistant attorneys general, Dann said Utovich stayed overnight at an apartment he shared with the two aides for a variety of reasons that he would not discuss. During her interview, Utovich would not say whether she ever stayed overnight at the apartment during her interview.

Utovich and Dann’s wife, Alyssa Lenhoff, did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

Both aides Dann lived with were fired after the results of the investigation were released Friday. Investigators found that Anthony Gutierrez, who led Dann’s general services office, violated sexual harassment policy, and Leo Jennings, Dann’s former communications chief, is accused of trying to get a worker to lie when interviewed under oath.

Investigators say Edgar Simpson, Dann’s policy chief, was forced to resign for failing to address inappropriate behavior. Simpson had knowledge of Gutierrez’s history of policy violations, the investigation report said.

Dann emerged into state politics as an appointed state senator with a small private law office, and became the face of the Democrats’ charge against a scandal over state investments that contributed to the Ohio GOP’s devastating election losses in 2006. He defeated a better known and more experienced Republican.

As Ohio’s top law enforcer, he has taken on the nation’s largest insurance brokerage, the mortgage lending industry, student loan providers, MySpace and the big three credit rating agencies, among others. His crime-fighting led to comparisons with New York’s Eliot Spitzer, who became governor after he was attorney general and recently resigned in a prostitution scandal.

Dann had removed himself from the sexual harassment investigation.

Gutierrez was accused by two women he supervised – Cindy Stankoski and Vanessa Stout, both 26 – of making unwanted advances and vulgar remarks.

Stankoski said she went to the apartment near Columbus shared by Dann, Gutierrez and Jennings for pizza and drinks. She said she fell asleep drunk at the condo and when she awoke, her pants were unbuttoned and Gutierrez was lying next to her in his underwear.

When it was apparent Stankoski had too much to drink, arrangements should have been made to get her home, investigators said.

Stout alleged that Gutierrez repeatedly asked her for sex, suggesting she “owed” him for helping her land a state job.

The investigation also found that Gutierrez violated policies that prohibit driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The report detailed an incident where Gutierrez allegedly was drinking with other employees while driving a state vehicle.

The matter is now under investigation by the State Highway Patrol.

Rex Elliott, the attorney for Stout and Stankoski, said both women feel vindicated.

“There are questions that go all the way to the top of that office about how the leader of that office allowed this environment to persist,” he said.

Messages left for Gutierrez’s attorney, Sam Amendolara, were not immediately returned. No phone listing for Simpson could be found.

Dann is the third high-ranking official around the country to be marred by sexual scandal in recent months. Spitzer resigned abruptly in March after revelations that he had been a customer of a high-end call girl service. And Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is charged with perjury, misconduct and obstruction of justice for accusations that he tried to hide a long-term romantic relationship with his former chief of staff.

The FBI confirms to TMZ that there’s an investigation into the Bella Models escort service in California and Florida, but wouldn’t confirm the WWE star’s role. Rolling Stone says that, according to the Bureau, the WWE babe, Playboy and Maxim models, and porn stars were employed by Bella.

We’ve put in a call to the WWE, but haven’t heard back.

The Penis Returns

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Judging by the already infamous opening scene of last week’s US box-office champ Forgetting Sarah Marshall – chump gets dumped while stark naked – and a couple of trouserless moments in next week’s likely chart-topper Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, the American penis is finally making its big movie comeback.

It’s been away a long time, loathed and feared by otherwise sensible people, and kept hidden behind the zip-like cordon sanitaire of the NC-17 rating. For too long it has been like some ferociously malevolent and powerful totem, not fit to be gazed upon, like the face of a god-emperor or the Wizard of Oz. And when the curtain is finally ripped back and the long-feared horror behind it is revealed … well, turns out it’s really not as bad as all that. A cowering little man behind the Wizard’s green curtain, or a shriveled little willy on a rather doughy, overweight 30-year-old. Really, what’s all the fuss about? We have for far too long been conceding far too much power to the mere, laughable phallus.

Sarah Marshall producer Judd Apatow has spoken of his keenness to see the taboos against penile visibility overthrown, and as a comic artist, who can really blame him? Penises are funny – ask any woman – and Apatow’s brand-name comedies have not been backwards in getting cockwise. Superbad concluded with a montage of cartoon penises – Statue of Liberty penis, Slim-Pickens-astride-the-Strangelove-bomb penis, etc – and (note title) Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story featured a mid-orgy faux-interview chocka with wizened penises strategically framed for maximum comic impact.

This suggests we may be on the cusp of throwing off the tyranny of the bluenoses of right and left. The sorry little object on display in Sarah Marshall is neither some figurative, uh, tentpole of the phallocratic conspiracy nor some irreligious incitement to mass licentiousness and unending sexual bacchanals. It’s just an absurd, shrimp-like appendage, perhaps inscribed with all its owner’s insecurities, and looking winded and powerless in the larger context of the ill-kept body it’s attached to.

This is in marked contrast to porn (a genre of movie that I suspect has never been viewed by the suburban-minded conferers of the NC-17 rating), in which the penis is foregrounded and privileged to the exclusion of all other parts of its faceless owner, who is reduced to the status of invisible life-support system for a hard-on. Talk about the objectification of the male body!

A lot of this anxiety has its roots in America’s puritan heritage, that censorious and pleasure-hating thread that runs gleaming through the tapestry of its history, and which long ago granted America the gift of shame and of complicated, chastity-promoting religious undergarments. Another tributary is the decision of the uncomfortably assimilated Jewish founders of the movie studios to hand over the task of moral invigilation of its products to the most reactionary and censorious kind of mid-century Irish-American Catholics – giving us the Breen Office, which infantilised American cinema for decades after the other arts had grown up.

As a result, the penis became an outlaw presence in US cinema, more often glimpsed in radical and groundbreaking work – such as Medium Cool, which gave us all we ever needed to see of Robert Forster’s johnson – than in those that get nominated for best picture. Serious actors doffed their shreddies in search of kudos or notoriety, like Richard Gere in American Gigolo and Breathless, Harvey Keitel in The Piano, Kevin Bacon in Wild Things, Leonardo DiCaprio in Total Eclipse, or Michael Pitt in The Dreamers. It all comes with an atmosphere of worthy, aren’t-I-brave seriousness that completely misses the comic possibilities of the cock.

Which makes me glad that Apatow and his minions are hard at the work of restoring the penis to its rightful place in the repertoire of American bawdiness, another deep, ancient and honorable artistic tradition that deserves to be kept up.

Au Revoir, Jean-Daniel Cadinot

We’re sad to hear via Gay Porn Times that director, photographer, and activist Jean-Daniel Cadinot— one of gay porn’s true legends—died this week of a heart attack; in his final blog entry on Wednesday, he wrote, “May all the efforts and work of a whole life, the quest for the moment of pure truth in the sublime communion of two beings under the spell of the undefinable desire for the other, inspire those who inherit my heart.” We’ll be digging up our old VHS copy of “Service Actif” (one of the first porn flicks we actually remember buying) for a private memorial screening this weekend; in the meantime, see why we’ll continue to be inspired by his life’s work after the jump.

Joe Oppedisano Punches It Up

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

http://fleshbot.com/assets/resources/2008/04/2008_04_25_oppedisano.jpg

In case you were worried that Joe Oppedisano was going to be focusing his lens on tastefully dressed prettyboy models from now on, don’t be: Queerty gives us a sneak peek of his new “Knockout!” project along with a tantalizing hint about what his upcoming “Testosterone 2″ is all about: “So, with this one, I’m giving them cock – and more. It’s beyond porn. We’re trying to figure out if we can get these pictures published, they’re so over the top.” Considering the fact that we’re still recovering from that first dose, maybe we should be glad that we’ll have to wait a while before the next one comes along? The Net Porn Fad

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

April 5, 2008

Fad n. A fashion that is taken up with great enthusiasm for a brief period of time; a craze.
Did you ever consider that the whole online porn thing may have simply been a fad and that it may have pretty much run its course?

There’s no denying the perennial appeal of sexually explicit imagery; from the first cave paintings and earliest iconography to some of the first uses of the printing press, oldest motion pictures and common examples of every other technological innovation in media publishing — right up to the Internet — porn has been wildly popular with the masses.

But the good old days are days gone by. And while there are many factors that have contributed to the market’s recent decline, one that I haven’t heard addressed is that it may have all been just a fad.

Fashion, or more accurately, what is fashionable, is an ever fickle commodity; and while I remember the early days of the World Wide Web and how critics claimed that it was nothing more than a rehash of the CB radio craze, no one would claim today that the web as we know it is a fad.

But what about porn? Was the public’s mad dash to the darker regions of cyberspace to discover a quantity, quality and variety of adult entertainment never before seen in the history of mankind merely a fad — a fad whose appeal has markedly diminished for all but the most voracious of consumers?

I’m not suggesting by any means that people are no longer visiting adult websites but that the rate at which they are visiting has been declining dramatically, with U.S.-based traffic to adult sites dropping by a third over the past two years, falling from 16.9 percent in October 2005 to 11.9 percent in 2007.

“If you chart the rate of visits to social-networking sites against those to adult sites over the last two years, there appears to be a strong negative correlation (i.e., visits to social networks go up as visits to adult sites go down),” Bill Tancer, Hitwise general manager of global research, said in a recent report. “They’re too busy chatting with friends to look at online skin.”

This is not news to many adult website operators, nor is it news that the percentage of dropoff in adult traffic is now roughly the same as the percentage of increase in traffic to social networking sites — today’s latest fad destinations on the Internet — some of which may already be seeing a decline in their page views, participation and membership rates.

Personally, I believe that what has driven the initial traffic spikes to adult websites, along with social networks and “tube” sites, is the novelty of these destinations — a novelty that can quickly wear off with increasing familiarity with the genre; or as the saying goes, “when you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.”

While there’s no doubt that unique and engaging content breeds ’stickiness’ and a desire for repeat visits to see what’s new; some users seem to have a “been there, done that” attitude, which a fellow expressed to me by saying, “sure, I used to visit porn sites, but I don’t bother anymore — there’s too much else to see on the Internet.”

Maybe so: but do these other things get you off? I hate to think that the very raison d’être for pornography — as a visual stimulus to aid in the process of masturbation, one of the most intimate of human activities — has been replaced by dancing doggies on YouTube. We as an industry are doomed if it has …

What got me contemplating the possibly faddish nature of online adult entertainment wasn’t anything to do with this industry, but a totally different one — and one that shares some interesting similarities: the custom motorcycle market.

As some of you may know, I’m a big fan of motorcycles — not girly crotch-rockets — but bad-ass American V-Twins.

As such, I found myself reading an editorial in the latest issue of hardcore biker magazine The Horse Backstreet Choppers, which decried the overall current state of the domestic custom industry while lauding the superior craftsmanship and customer service of some of the players in the foreign markets.

Tell me if this sounds familiar: an industry, no longer rolling in the money that suddenly flooded into it, finds the larger, more professional, innovative and established operators continuing to make profits in the face of an increasingly maturing and more competitive market; while smaller, less professional and unimaginative operators close up their shops; unable to compete or evolve in the face of dramatic changes.

It wasn’t too long ago where it seemed that most of the shows on The Discovery Channel had to do with custom motorcycles: from the antics of West Coast Choppers’ Jesse James to the familial infighting of the Teutul boys from Orange County Choppers and myriad other shows as well; America’s love affair with custom bikes came into our living rooms on a nightly basis. Sure, not everyone can afford a $100,000 motorcycle — but that didn’t keep folks from dreaming, or being interested in the products and their producers.

While the boys from OCC are still at it, most of the other shows are in re-runs, or no longer airing — a sure sign that a fad that had a great run for several years has now ended.

People have been enjoying motorcycles for over a hundred years now, and will continue to, well into the foreseeable future — but for now, the party seems to be over, and much the same can and has been said about online adult.

While we can’t blame all of our woes on online porn being just a fad; the possibility that it was a fad is something to consider.

Ryder Skye to Shoot with David Stanley

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

Friday, April 4, 2008

Performer Ryder Skye has teamed up with director David Stanley to shoot scenes together that will be delivered via a website on Clips4Sale.com.

Skye is an up-and-coming performer who is moving from gonzo into acting. Stanley is a veteran director whose thought-provoking plot-driven videos and films have been a staple of the couples video market for several years.

The initial scenes — starring Ryder and directed by Stanley — will focus on foot fetishes. Other scenes will explore other aspects of fetishes in sexuality. Plans call for future scenes to be based on requests from fans.

“I’ve worked on many of David’s projects, and he’s an amazing director,” Skye said. “When I found out he was a free agent, I called him, and we both came up with the idea to produce fetish scenes we can offer directly to our fans. One of my majors is human sexuality, so I’m also looking forward to exploring the fetish side of adult video.”

Stanley is pleased with the collaboration.

“I’ve known Ryder for about six months,” Stanley said. “We met on a set a while back and have become fast friends since. She’s a warm, caring, intelligent dame, and I think the world of her.”

As the site grows, they plan to invite other adult performers as guest stars. Stanley also would like to shoot small feature films — “all of high-level erotic content,” he said — sold as separate scenes.

“What makes this special and unique — at least in terms of its place on Clips4Sale — is that we plan on bringing the same high level of quality to our clip-work that we do to our feature work, meaning high-end production values, sexy girls, hot sex, but at a reasonable cost to the consumer,” Stanley said. “New levels of interactivity will be available to the porn fan at a price that isn’t ridiculous.”

‘Brand New Faces 6′ Hits Stores

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

Friday, April 4, 2008

Brand New Faces 6, Vivid Entertaiment’s latest Blu-ray title, has hit stores. The pro-am series, directed by B. Skow, has a money-back guarantee that none of the amateur female performers have ever before been captured on film.
The Blu-ray version will be available next week, while standard format is currently shipping.

“From the time that they come into the offices, everything is filmed. The Brand New Faces website actually shows when the girls are being introduced — literally ‘fresh off the bus,’” Vivid’s David Peskin told XFANZ.

“We only shoot girls that have done nothing. We check into the 2257s, and we make sure that they have never shot anything on video,” B. Skow told XFANZ in a previous interview. “They’re allowed to do nude layouts in magazines or maybe some solo stuff, but this is their very first time having sex on camera, and it’s real.”

The title features Sammie Rhodes, Veronica Hill, Scarlett Fay, Voodoo and Alex Gonz, as well as two amateurs that caught the eye of the crew at Vivid.

“We’re very excited about Lisa Belize and Dylan Fox,” Peskin said. “They’re both gorgeous with incredible bodies, and it was also how their scenes came out.” Demand for the pro-am line indicated to the company that with the sixth installment, a Blu-ray version should be released.

“This being the sixth in the series — it’s amazing how fast this series has taken off to what I believe is one of the top pro-am series in the market,” Peskin said.
